Often described as post-Pop, Dutch artist Parra somehow manages to negotiate the problematic relationship between art and commercialization. On the surface, his signature, skate-inspired products are undeniably cool. But there’s something much deeper underneath.
With his art now gracing everything from streetwear, to shower curtains and car fresheners, as well as frequent forays into the world of massive corporate collaborations with the likes of Nike and Converse, it’s refreshing to see how Parra has stayed true to his aesthetic vision. Every product is truly, singularly his, and grants the rest of us an opportunity to own something profoundly artistic.
